Is Cloud-Based Gaming Capable Of Killing Traditional Consoles? Here Are The Pros And Cons Of Both Platforms

Cloud-based gaming has been gaining grounds lately with the arrival of more platforms. Could this be the end of the traditional consoles?

For years, the gaming community has been used to playing on their favorite consoles. They could have started their journey on a family computer to the latest models of PlayStation or Xbox. However, the scenario has been slowly changing lately. Several tech companies have begun introducing their respective cloud gaming services.

Last week, Google launched its brand of gaming on-demand platform. Google Stadia is pushing for the availability of video games, without the limitations of using a PC or console.

The company said in a statement that its cloud-based gaming service is about providing a “powerful” platform. This is for both gamers and the community that loves to watch available games.

In the meantime, more and more tech firms are expected to launch new brands of online gaming soon. Numerous reports have revealed that Amazon is joining the bandwagon by 2020. Meanwhile, Microsoft is still working hard on perfecting Project xCloud.

Considering the current situation, many gamers could be wondering if they should forget their consoles.

To help these gamers decide, here are the pros and cons of both platforms:

Gaming Consoles

• Affordable. Getting a gaming console would not hurt your pocket. Generally, buying one is budget-friendly, especially if purchased in bundles.

• Simple to Use. Once taken out of the box, the device is ready to use. Making it work is simple, too.

• System Upgrading. When gamers decide to own a console, they do not have to upgrade their system always. Nevertheless, this can be a disadvantage, as well. An outdated device may end up ruining the gaming experience of gamers.

Cloud-Based Gaming

• Availability in Different Platforms. When a game is exclusive to a specific console only, the gamers’ access to it becomes limited. On the contrary, an online gaming service allows them to play it on various platforms. The cloud server enables this convenient mechanism.

• Accessibility. Relative to availability, convenience is another significant advantage of cloud gaming. Gamers can access their favorite game from a smartphone and other devices, including computers.

• Limited Game Titles. At present, the list of games is not that extensive yet. In short, the options are limited, which could hamper the gamers’ chance of experiencing the fun they are expecting.

According to networking service provider Tenda India, the cloud-based gaming industry is anticipated to reach US$8 billion in 2025. This is a huge leap from the current rate of US$1 billion.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint Just Received A Major Update In The Cosmetics Department

Breakpoint is the latest game in the Ghost Recon series. Unfortunately, it was met with mixed reviews. Some portions really have their fun moments, such as the decent gun mechanics and competent progression system. Others don’t shine so brightly like the bevvy of bugs and limited enemy AI.

Ubisoft — despite receiving some backlash — hasn’t given up on the game. They have included several updates since launch and even plan on re-hauling the game completely. Somehow, even after the success of Ghost Recon Wildlands, they missed the mark with this latest installment.

They have since gone on to acknowledge this and just unveiled another patch. One of the biggest changes in update 1.0.3.1 is the ability to change your character at any point during the game. For example, you could be in the middle of a mission and decide to change the complete structure of your face.

Or, if you’re feeling bold enough and want a completely new visual appearance, you could swap your sex on a dime. The freedom to change your character on a whim gives rise to new possibilities. This new cosmetics change system comes after the community has requested more custom character options.

Ubisoft took these requests to heart and quickly implemented changes in Breakpoint, which players have seemed to enjoy thus far. There are a lot of YouTube channels showing drastic character changes midway through a mission. It instantly gives Breakpoint a unique appeal that not a lot of other tactical shooters have.

In addition to this swap-at-any-time design, players in Breakpoint also have access to more customization options. More specifically, there are many more items to build an outfit. This is a welcomed change because previously, players had to earn these outfit options through progression or they could just pay for them outright.

Lastly, this update is introducing a lot of bug fixes. Breakpoint may have started off a little rocky, but Ubisoft is still committed to the project. They want to give fans an amazing tactical shooter experience, even if that means putting more time and resources into this game.

Can this latest update save the title? That remains to be seen. It’s still refreshing to see Ubisoft take initiative and right their wrongs. Even without these updates, there are still some really great aspects of Breakpoint. The game’s main setting — Aurora — is a fun island to explore and upgrading your gun never ceases to be fun. Even better, more updates are on the way.

Playstation 5 News: Console’s Reported Price And Specs Make Gamers A Winner Over Building A PC

The latest PlayStation 5 news has given gamers a glimpse of what specs to expect from it. And with its rumored price, there is indeed a big reason to consider the next Sony Interactive Entertainment console.

Based on the leaks and reports that have come out, the PS5 may carry a price tag of $499. Accordingly, this is the most affordable unit to be offered.

With such a price, many gamers have been wondering if it would be wise to buy it. Or, they may stick to their plan of building a gaming PC using the same budget.

Being in the market for more than two decades, the Sony-manufactured product has been getting innovations every time a new variant is introduced. By Nov. 20, 2020, various news reports claimed that the PlayStation 5 model would be launched finally.

The highly anticipated PS5 console is said to be boasting remarkable specifications. Its CPU will feature AMD’s Zen 2 architecture. This means that it is as powerful as the Ryzen 7 3700x processor. This has the power to deliver high-performance, courtesy of its eight cores paired with 16 threads.

When it comes to storage capacity, the latest PlayStation 5 news has provided an interesting detail. It has been surmised that its SSD would be capable of storing a considerable amount of data. There could be a variant that would come with a 1 TB or 2 TB SSD.

Getting such a large storage capacity at an affordable price would be a competitive advantage for the Sony device. If gamers would build a PC equipped with a 1 TB or 2 TB SSD, they could be spending more. Thus, buying the PS5 could be a wise decision if rumors were true.

To give a more precise description of the comparison between the PlayStation 5 and building a gaming PC, check this out:

Other PlayStation 5 Specs

• GPU is the custom, Navi-based model

• The memory is 8 GB. This is in GDDR6.

• To connect components that require high-speed capability, the device has the 4.0 model of PCIe.

These features could be enjoyed in PS5 for a price of US$499. On the other hand, if gamers opt to build a PC with a budget of US$600, they could get the following:

Gaming PC Specs

• Its CPU would be an eight-core processor, particularly the Ryzen 5 3600.

• Its GPU would be an AMD brand, the RX 5700.

• Its memory would still be at 8 GB. However, it would only be a DDR4.

• To connect components, the 3.0 version of PCIe would be used.

These specs between the forthcoming PlayStation device and a personally built PC may help gamers with their decision. If PlayStation 5 news reports were right, purchasing it could be the wiser move.
