Last month, Joker became the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, passing last year’s Deadpool 2, which brought in $785 million, and 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded, which grossed $828 million worldwide. Now, it has become the first R-rated movie to reach the $1 billion mark (unadjusted for inflation) at the box office.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Warner Bros. has confirmed that the movie has passed the major milestone, and it happened just a little more than a month after it’s October 4th release.

This is just the latest record for the film, which was directed by Todd Phillips and stars Joaquin Phoenix in the titular role. The violent origin story of the most well-known Batman villain – who is also the superhero’s arch nemesis – had the highest-grossing October opening weekend ever with a three-day total of $93.5 million. And, in its first three weekends, it grossed a whopping $737.5 million.

Warner Bros. spent just $62.5 million to finance the film, and it is estimated that the studio spent at least another $40 million or so for global marketing and distribution fees. But, that $100 million-ish total is still just a fraction of what Marvel spends on their movies. That relatively conservative investment on Warner Bros.’ part means that Joker could possibly end up being the most profitable superhero movie in film history.

“Joker is definitely having the last laugh,” Jeff Bock, a senior media analyst with Exhibitor Relations, told Variety. “You can’t buy a comic-book adaptation for that price, yet Warner Bros. pulled it off with good old-fashioned storytelling.”

Bock went on to say that Warner Bros. kept their investment to a minimum because of the film’s violent and disturbing content, but the bottom line is that they took a risk and it paid off. They had the exact same success in 2016 with the first Deadpool, which starred Ryan Reynolds as the foul-mouthed Merc with a Mouth, when they spent just $58 million on the film, and it ended up grossing $783 million at the box office.

Because Phillips’ Joker was an intimate character study instead of a movie loaded with CGI, it helped keep the costs low. And, the universal themes the film explores helped it avoid a major drop-off at the box office after it’s opening weekend, which is something that usually happens with superhero movies.

“We’re talking about universal themes of alienation, loneliness, helplessness and anger that have truly continued to feed this box office beast,” Bock said. “Younger audiences are championing this film in much the same way the youthful demographic of the day rallied around Natural Born Killers or Clockwork Orange, or Pulp Fiction.”

He explained that each film was violent in its own way, but it also had something to say about society’s shortcomings. Bock believes that Joker and other successful violent films were able to “jack into the cinematic synapses of moviegoers,” and that made them talking points and gave the films a longer shelf life than their competitors.

Joker is currently playing in theaters nationwide.

Real Housewives of New York star Luann de Lesseps is in New York City with dozens of other Bravolebrities for the first-ever BravoCon, and she’s dishing on all things Season 12. De Lesseps says that every cast member on RHONY has “big personalities” and they will “absolutely” bring the fireworks, even though Bethenny Frankel has left the show.

The Countess talked about Frankel’s replacement – Married to the Mob fashion line CEO and Penthouse columnist Leah McSweeney – and she says that she likes her “very much.”

“It’s been going really great,” de Lesseps told TooFab. “Look, we have really old friendships, Ramona, Sonja, myself, Dorinda, Tinsley, and we have the new housewife, so the season is just coming out amazing. I think the fans are going to be like, wow. We’re having a great season. And it’s as good as it’s always been.”

De Lesseps also addressed Barbara Kovit’s recent remarks about their broken friendship. Kovit lasted just one season as a friend of the Countess, and she said in an interview that, “There is no good with Luann.” Kovit added that she had a 14-year friendship with de Lesseps, and she is walking away from it forever.

“She will never have me as a friend again,” said Kovit.

In response, de Lesseps said that she wishes Kovit only the best, and then she quoted former First Lady Michelle Obama, saying, “You go low, and I go high.”

As for those rumors that Tinsley Mortimer is done with the show and moving to Chicago to be with boyfriend (and possible fiance) Scott Kluth, de Lesseps said that you never know when it comes to Mortimer. De Lesseps confirmed that Mortimer and Kluth are back together, and she hopes and prays it works out this time around.

De Lesseps added that the door is always open for Mortimer if she needs to come back.

After de Lesseps wraps up BravoCon with her Countess and Friends cabaret show on Sunday, she will be hitting the road for some holiday performances of her cabaret act. She says that she will be performing her classics like Money Can’t Buy You Class and Chic C’est La Vie, and she will also be switching things up with some new elements, like different music and different guests.

Season 12 of Real Housewives of New York will premiere on Bravo in the spring of 2020.

For the past couple of seasons of Vanderpump Rules, Lala Kent has kept her relationship with film producer Randall Emmett away from Bravo cameras, and at the beginning of their romance she even refused to say his name on the show. But that will all change in Season 8, as Kent says Emmett will be making his Vanderpump Rules debut ahead of their April 2020 wedding.

During this weekend’s BravoCon, Kent told Page Six that fans will get to see a lot of her relationship with Emmett in the upcoming season, but she has no idea why he caved in and decided to appear on the show.

“I have no idea, but I honestly think since last season he was like, ‘We need to show people what our relationship is really like,’” said Kent. “Because I’m the type of person, I make jokes about like blowjobs and BJs on the PJ — that’s just my sense of humor. I’m all talk. No, no bite. I think now people will be like, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ Our dynamic is totally aligned. We mesh perfectly together. And that’s all I want people to see is like, this is who I am with my partner.”

Emmett made his Bravo debut with Kent last year when his home was renovated on Jeff Lewis’ Flipping Out, but Season 8 will mark his first appearance on Vanderpump Rules. However, it’s unclear if the couple will allow Bravo cameras at their wedding.

Kent says that wedding planning has been “overwhelming,” but it’s also been very exciting. She explained that she had no idea how much goes into planning a wedding, so she is still “freaking out.”

Even though they are only five months away from their wedding date, Kent still hasn’t put together a seating chart for the reception, and her co-star Scheana Shay just pointed out that she needs to get that done. Kent couldn’t believe a seating chart was even necessary, and she asked if they could just do first come, first serve.

In addition to her wedding and the new season of Vanderpump Rules, Kent also talked about Andy Cohen’s announcement that the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City is coming to Bravo in 2020. Kent is from Utah, and she says the announcement of the new show is “like Christmas.”

The 29-year-old said that people who are raised in her hometown of Salt Lake City are crazy, so the show is going to make the best TV ever. She added that when she finds out who the cast is, fans “best believe” she will be “sliding into all of their DMs.”

While many find the new mom, stunning, others say it makes her look older, and she is being ridiculed for her elder comment.

On the latest episode of Nick Cannon’s morning show, Cole and her boyfriend, Niko “Khale” Hale, sat down for a very honest conversation about their age gap. Cole is 37, while her beau is only 23.

Cannon, who was married to an older woman — Mariah Carey — asked Cole if she is Hale’s “elder.”

He stated: “To be in a relationship and to start a family with someone like this, I mean, I’ve been in that situation before where I stepped into royalty, to an elder, and she guided me.”

Cannon continued with: “You are his elder.” Cole hit back with: “I am not his f*cking elder.” Cannon repeated: “Yes, you are, embrace it. You are his elder what would you call it?”

Cole hit back with: “Mariah is your elder.”

Cannon confessed: “She is! She was, and I embraced it. There was nothing wrong with being a younger man that was molded and shaped by someone who was older.”

The singer asked: “She molded and shaped you?”

The TV host revealed: “Yes, I learned so much from Mariah, and I will be forever in debt to how she allowed me to come into manhood. That’s when I became a man–when I got married and had children.”

The couple welcomed their first child together over the summer. Cole is already mom to a 9-year-old boy whom she shares with her ex-husband, Daniel Gibson.

Real Housewives of Orange County star Vicki Gunvalson is not happy that Bravo demoted her to a “friend” of the show this season after starring as a full-time cast member for thirteen seasons. The OG of the OC said at BravoCon this weekend that if Bravo wants her to return next season, then they need to restore her full-time status or she’s going to walk.

Gunvalson is the only original cast member still appearing on RHOC after it premiered back in 2006, and she has no plans to “whoop it up” again unless Bravo gives her the respect she deserves.

“I’m never coming back reduced again,” said Gunvalson during a BravoCon panel that also featured Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards, Teresa Giudice from Real Housewives of New Jersey, and Real Housewives of New York’s Luann de Lesseps.

According to OK! Magazine, when a fan asked during the panel discussion how a Housewife knows when it’s time to walk away from the series, Gunvalson said that was a topic that she and Richards were discussing backstage.

Richards chimed in with, “As long as we’re having fun still,” and she added, “I know there’s a lot of drama and a lot of conflicts, but it’s also a lot of fun.”

Gunvalson’s BravoCon statement contradicts what she recently told Jerry O’Connell on his talk show. At that time, Gunvalson said that RHOC producer Scoot Dunlop told her that “unless they kick you off the horse, don’t voluntarily get off the horse.” Gunvalson then exclaimed that she was “still on the horse,” and she was “still riding the pony.”

The 57-year-old explained that she didn’t know what her future was on the show, but she is having fun and the cast members are her friends. Gunvalson added that she has a lot of love for her franchise, and a lot of love for what she created and her cast because they’ve “been through hell and back.”

“But truthfully, it’s our reality. It’s what my life has gone through for the last 14 years. And it’s been some bumpiness,” said Gunvalson.

New episodes of Real Housewives of Orange County air Tuesday nights on Bravo.
